Located in the heart of Edmonton along Whyte Avenue, The Roti Shop is a fusion of East African and Indian cuisine.
The fusion of East African Indian cuisine evolved in the late 1800's, when many East Indian families migrated to East Africa in search of better opportunity. They brought with them their spices and traditional methods of cooking. Coupled with the abundance of exotic African spices, fruits and vegetables unique to the East African region a new cuisine was born.
The Roti Shop is a concept created by Mohamed, known to many as "Chef" or "Mo", a gifted chef born in Moshi and raised in Iringa, Tanzania. The family's passion for cooking and preparing meals for the masses dates back four generations for the Pirmohamed/Anand family, beginning with the days in Moshi Tanzania where Mo's great grandfather Anand was a famous baker. The tradition carried on with Mo's grandfather Pirmohamed, a chef that catered for the town and finally Mo's father Kamrudin, a chef in his famous restaurant Green Hotel located in Iringa.
Mo has been passionate about culinary arts since his early teens, working in many restaurants over the years and operating his own catering business in Edmonton, Alberta for the past 22 years.
